The AGP Group is a world-leading and specialized glass manufacturer.  Our company guarantees world-class technology and the highest level of innovation in glazing solutions.  More than 20 renowned automobile manufacturers rely daily on the know-how of our 7 high-tech production plants and innovation centers, which now employ a total of over 4,000 people. Due to the ambitious growth of the organization, we wish to strengthen the R&D team in Canton, Michigan with a Research and Development Polymer Processing Lead.

The Role

In this role, we are looking for a Research and Development Lead that will be responsible for developing the vision of future materials at AGP and leading an outstanding team of subject matter experts across the full spectrum of Polymeric materials to execute that vision.

Responsibilities

Developing the vision of future materials at AGP and leading an outstanding team of subject matter experts across the full spectrum of Polymeric materials to execute that vision.
Ensuring the team has the necessary resources and capabilities to perform and meet their strategic goals, in particular understanding of applicable customer requirements & providing related trainings.
Providing direction to design, other R&D teams, and other engineering teams for optimal material and process selection; providing them with the tools necessary to choose the best materials for a given application using a first principles approach.
Identifying limitations of current material solutions and leading the investigation and development of new materials that enable design and performance improvements and/or cost savings.
Developing and maintaining engineering tools to facilitate the distribution of materials knowledge within AGP design engineering, inclusive of material and process specifications, materials property databases, materials catalogs, and material qualification processes.
Managing different R&D projects related to the specific area.
Understanding customer expectations and translating this into technical requirements
Scouting, developing and validating new suppliers for polymeric materials and processes technologies.
Working and collaborating with current and new suppliers to solve any technical issue related to the supplied product.
Building a strong network of specialize consultants to support the technical challenges of the different projects.
Establishing KPI's for the team in alignment with upper management.
Preparing and defending yearly budgets within Active Glass BU
Managing BU execution (CAPEX and OPEX)
Actively participating and contributing in the global expansion and growth efforts based on local Lessons learned and experience.
Maintaining and ensuring governance models


Experience
Master Or PhD level of science equivalent.
5 years working directly within the field of expertise.
2 years managing direct reports.
Expert level knowledge of polymeric materials, polymer processing/manufacturing/forming methods, and issues from these manufacturing processes.
Experience with characterization optical, mechanical, physical, and thermophysical characterization techniques specialized for polymeric materials such as DMA, DSC, TGA, Microscopy, SEM, TEM, among others.
Experience in polymer processes modeling and simulation
Advanced understanding of process-structure-properties relationship
Knowledge in DOE
Automotive experience is strongly preferred but not a prerequisite.
Experience writing technical literatures (papers, patents)
Fluent in English, Other language ideal (Spanish, Portuguese, German, Korean, Chinese) – highly rated
A highly developed ability to see the big picture and set the correct priorities in a highly demanding environment that is often ambiguous and changing.

Requirements
  • Expert level knowledge of polymeric materials, polymer processing/manufacturing/forming methods, and issues from these manufacturing processes.
